PRESS RELEASES

The Council of Media Ethics of Macedonia (CMEM) hereby appeals to the media for increased responsibility in informing the public about the current pandemic and the protection measures aimed at the population, including the vaccination process.

In circumstances of continuous increase in the number of newly contracted persons with the virus, the media are expected to be equally engaged in the endeavours aimed at increasing the citizens’ trust in the protection measures safeguarding their health by virtue of fair, balanced and professional informing.

Each and every use of media as a platform for spreading and conveying the appeals of individuals and groups promoting avoidance of the protection measures is contrary to their role as a significant stakeholder in the addressing of misinformation and propaganda.

Taking into consideration that the vaccination is a topic resulting in different interpretations by the citizens, it is of paramount importance that people gain information from reliable and trustworthy sources that are based on evidence and that contribute to adopting rational decisions concerning their health.
